This policy explains what personal data Tahiri Idriss (an independent developer based in Algeria, the “developer”, “we”, “us”) collects or processes in connection with the TD. Downloader application, the TD. Downloader — Send to App Chrome Extension, the licensing service and this website, why we process it, and the choices you have.
The Software is designed to keep your data on your own device wherever possible.
In short: the website sets no analytics or advertising cookies. The desktop app keeps your settings, any sign-in files you supply, and your download history on your computer. The Chrome Extension may access cookies and other information from websites when required to provide a download or media-detection feature requested by you. The Extension transfers relevant information to the locally installed desktop application through Chrome Native Messaging. The cookie information transferred to the desktop application is handled separately from the licensing service. The licensing service separately receives information needed to run the free trial and to sell and protect paid licences.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Tahiri Idriss.
2. This website
This website is a set of static pages. We do not run our own analytics, advertising, social-media pixels or tracking cookies on it.
The site is served through a hosting provider and a content-delivery network. Like almost all web infrastructure, those providers automatically process technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the time of your request in server logs, and may set strictly-necessary cookies for security and load-balancing. This processing is carried out by those providers for the security and reliable operation of the site.
If you email us using a link on the site, we receive your email address and message.
3. The desktop application — data kept on your device
When you use the Software, the following is stored locally on your computer (in your Windows user profile):
- your application settings and preferences;
- any browser-cookie or authentication files you choose to load so the Software can access Content on your behalf;
- automatically received authentication cookies used when required for supported downloads;
- the list and history of your downloads, including course titles, lesson names and completion times;
- the start date of your free trial (also mirrored in a value under your Windows user registry key), used to enforce the trial period;
- after activation, a signed licence file confirming your paid licence.
The locally stored browser-cookie and authentication information is used to access Content on your behalf when required by a download or other operation requested by you.
Automatically received cookie files may be retained locally for a limited period and are subject to an automatic retention period of up to 30 days. Manually imported or otherwise managed cookie files may remain on your computer until you delete them.
You can delete locally stored application data at any time by removing the Software’s data folder and the related registry value, or by using the Software’s own controls where available.
Removing local licence or trial data does not necessarily restart the free trial, because relevant trial information is also maintained by the licensing service.
4. The TD. Downloader Chrome Extension
The TD. Downloader — Send to App Chrome Extension is designed to work with the TD. Downloader desktop application.
The Extension allows you to send downloads and supported media from your browser to the locally installed desktop application.
Depending on the feature being used and the action requested by you, the Extension may access or process:
- the URL of the current page;
- URLs of detected media or downloadable resources;
- download filenames;
- relevant web-request information;
- Referer information where required;
- User-Agent information where required;
- cookies associated with the relevant website;
- information about supported video or media elements on a page.
This information is processed to provide download, media-detection and browser-to-desktop functionality.
The Extension does not use this information for advertising, behavioural profiling or selling personal information.
5. Browser cookies and authentication information
Some websites require an authenticated browser session before a file, video or other resource can be downloaded.
When you request such a download, the Extension may access cookies associated with the relevant website using Chrome’s cookie functionality. These cookies may contain authentication or session information belonging to that website.
When required for the requested operation, relevant cookies may be transferred through Chrome Native Messaging to the locally installed TD. Downloader desktop application. The application stores and processes this information locally for the requested functionality.
The Chrome Extension and the desktop application do not send browser-cookie information to the TD. Downloader website, the licensing server, the policy service, or any other external service or third party.
Browser-cookie information is completely separate from the purchase, payment, licence activation, licence verification, and licence management processes.
6. Chrome Native Messaging
The Chrome Extension communicates with the locally installed TD. Downloader desktop application using Chrome Native Messaging.
Depending on the requested operation, information transferred through this local communication may include:
- a download URL;
- a filename;
- relevant HTTP headers;
- Referer and User-Agent information;
- cookies associated with the requested URL;
- information required to process a detected media resource.
This communication is between the browser Extension and the desktop application installed on your computer and does not require a third-party messaging service to transfer the information between them.
7. Download interception and media detection
If download interception is enabled, the Extension may monitor browser download events to determine whether a download should be handled by TD. Downloader.
When an applicable download is detected, the Extension may prevent the browser’s normal download from continuing and send the relevant download information to the desktop application.
If media detection is enabled, the Extension may inspect relevant web requests and supported page elements to identify downloadable media resources.
These features are used to provide download functionality requested by you and can be controlled through the Extension’s available settings.
8. Cookie import and export
The Extension may provide functionality for importing or exporting cookies for use with the TD. Downloader desktop application.
When you explicitly use this functionality, the Extension may access the relevant cookies and transfer them to the locally installed desktop application.
Cookie information is stored locally for use by the application and is not collected for advertising or marketing purposes.
You should only use authentication cookies for websites and accounts that you are authorized to access.
9. The licensing service — data we receive
To run the free trial and to sell, activate and protect paid licences, the Software communicates with our licensing service.
The following data is sent to and stored by that service:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name and email address (as entered at purchase / activation) | To issue the licence, associate it with you, provide support, and confirm licence ownership when you activate. |
| Your licence key | To verify that the key is genuine and has not been revoked. |
| A machine fingerprint: a one-way SHA-256 hash derived from your computer’s host name, operating-system user name, platform, Windows installation identifier and one network-adapter hardware address | To identify an installation for licence activation and trial-abuse prevention. |
| The start date of your free trial | To calculate the trial period and prevent the trial from being repeatedly restarted. |
| The IP address associated with an activation, check or trial request, and a short hash of it | Network operation and detecting licence or trial abuse. We do not use it to track your browsing or build a profile. |
| The approximate time of each activation or check, and the Software version/build | Basic operation, security, fraud prevention and troubleshooting. |
| Application integrity information where applicable | To detect modified or tampered installations and enforce applicable licence policies. |
10. Remote policy and application security
The desktop application may periodically communicate with our remote policy service.
The policy service may provide signed information used by the application for purposes including:
- minimum supported application versions;
- latest available application versions;
- mandatory update requirements;
- application blocking;
- tamper-related enforcement;
- licence-security controls;
- other operational security policies.
The application verifies the authenticity of signed policy information before applying it.
The remote policy mechanism may therefore be used to require an application update or prevent operation of an unauthorized, obsolete or modified version.
The policy service is separate from the browser-cookie mechanism described in Sections 4–8.
11. Payments
Payments are handled by Paddle.com (Paddle.com Market Ltd), our authorised reseller and Merchant of Record.
Paddle processes your payment details under its own privacy policy; we do not receive or store full card numbers.
From Paddle we receive the information needed to fulfil and account for your order, such as your name, email, country and an order reference.
12. Who we share data with
We share personal data only with:
- service providers acting on our instructions — website hosting, the server that runs the licensing service, email, and our Merchant of Record and payment provider, Paddle.com;
- authorities or third parties where we are legally required to do so, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, or to prevent fraud or abuse.
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for others’ marketing.
Browser-cookie information accessed by the Chrome Extension is transferred only to the locally installed TD. Downloader desktop application when required for a user-requested operation.
Browser-cookie information is not provided to the TD. Downloader website, licensing service, policy service, payment provider, or any other external service or third party.
Browser-cookie information is separate from the data processed for purchases, licence activation, licence verification, licence management, and payment processing.
13. International transfers
Our service providers may process data on servers located outside Algeria, including in the European Union or other countries.
Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards offered by those providers.
Third-party websites accessed through TD. Downloader may also process information according to their own infrastructure and privacy policies.
14. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to:
- confirm what data we hold about you;
- provide a copy;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your data;
- restrict or object to certain processing.
To exercise any of these rights, please use the contact details provided in Section 18.
We will respond within a reasonable time.
If you ask us to delete licence or fraud-prevention data while a licence is active, we may need to deactivate that licence, and we may retain the minimum information needed to prevent renewed abuse of the free trial.
If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you may contact your local data-protection authority.
15. Children
The Software, Chrome Extension and website are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
16. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the data we hold, including transport encryption for communication with the licensing service, signed licence and policy responses, and controls designed to restrict access to the application’s local services.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the website, desktop application, Chrome Extension or associated services change.
The “last updated” date shows the current version posted on this website.
Material changes will be highlighted where practical.
